Our lab is seeking to hire a half-time bilingual (Chinese/English) laboratory assistant to assist in a study on Chinese American children’s mental health adjustment. Below is the job description.

Laboratory Assistant III

Job Description: 

The Psychology Department is an academic department in the College of Letters & Science with more than 40 faculty members and over 100 graduate students. 

The Kids & Family Project is a longitudinal study investigating the risk and protective factors for mental health adjustment in 1st and 2nd generation Chinese American immigrant children.  The primary goals of this study are (1) to study the overall development and individual differences in Chinese American immigrant children’s mental health adjustment, academic socio-emotional competence; and (2) to identify what contextual (e.g., culture, school, family, and neighborhood environment) and individual (e.g., temperament) factors place some Chinese American children at risk for maladjustment and what factors can promote psychological wellbeing and competence in this population.

Responsibilities: 

- Contact families by phone and mail to determine their eligibility to participate, schedule interviews, and track their whereabouts for future assessments
-Distribute and collect teacher questionnaires by mail
- Carry out psychological and behavioral assessments of school age immigrant children and their parents
- Coordinate with the teachers/staffs at the target schools in recruiting study participants
- Enter and manage data for recruitment and assessments
- Participate in regular staff and supervisor meetings with the Principal Investigator

Requirements & Qualifications: 

Required:
- Undergraduate degree in Psychology or related Social Science Field
- Fluency in English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese Chinese (spoken and written languages)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Organized, responsible, and with close attention to detail
- Familiarity with standard software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must have automobile for local Bay Area travel
- Valid California Drivers License and good driving record reflecting no more than 1 moving violation in the immediate 24-month period preceding application date
- Ability to handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

This is a part time position; work hours are flexible. Must have automobile for local Bay Area travel.
